Britain in the early 19th century. The English traveled to India and for the long crossing they needed a beer that could withstand this extreme journey and remain drinkable. A more strongly brewed pale ale, in which the barrels were also stuffed with hop cones, was the cornerstone of India Pale Ale, or IPA for short.
With IPA 606, we are giving this beer style a classic, modern interpretation. The beer owes the number 606 in its name to the registration number of our brewery in Switzerland. A numbers game that is reflected in the 6.0% alcohol and the 6 hop varieties used.
The balance of hops and malt make this copper-colored beer a true moment of happiness. A strong, well-balanced malt body harmonizes with the finely balanced bitterness of the beer.
Under the fine-pored, beige head, hop aromas of mango, pineapple, passion fruit and grapefruit emerge. The refreshing tang plays around the balanced malt body with its caramel-like sweetness. A pleasant bitterness remains in the finish, which is never overpowering.
In contrast to the usual IPAs, we also go our own way with this beer, as we do not use any additional hops in the fermentation or lagering tank. We only achieve the refreshing, tropical-fruity aroma through targeted hopping in the hot section.
